Removals Elephant and Castle Modern Slavery Statement
This Modern Slavery Statement sets out the steps taken by Removals Elephant and Castle to prevent modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour and exploitation within our operations and supply chains. We are committed to conducting our business ethically, transparently and in full compliance with all relevant legislation relating to modern slavery and human rights.
Our Zero-Tolerance Approach
Removals Elephant and Castle has a strict zero-tolerance policy towards modern slavery and human trafficking in any form. This applies to our own activities, our employees, contractors, agency workers and every organisation in our supply chains. We will not knowingly engage with, or support, any business involved in the exploitation of individuals, whether through forced labour, debt bondage, child labour, or any other abusive practice.
All managers and supervisors are responsible for promoting this zero-tolerance stance and for ensuring that decisions regarding procurement, recruitment and outsourcing reflect our commitment to ethical labour standards. Any indication that modern slavery may be present in our business or supply chain is treated with the utmost seriousness and investigated promptly.
Our Supply Chains and Supplier Standards
Our supply chains primarily involve providers of vehicles, fuel, packing materials, storage facilities, equipment, subcontracted removal services and labour agencies. We expect all suppliers and partners to share our commitment to preventing modern slavery and to operate in line with applicable labour, employment and human rights laws.
We communicate our expectations to suppliers through our procurement processes, contractual terms and ongoing relationship management. New suppliers are assessed for their approach to labour standards, and we may decline to work with any supplier that cannot demonstrate adequate controls to prevent exploitation. We reserve the right to terminate relationships where non-compliance with our anti-slavery requirements is identified and not satisfactorily addressed.
Supplier Audits and Due Diligence
Removals Elephant and Castle undertakes proportionate due diligence and auditing of suppliers to identify and manage the risk of modern slavery. Our audits may include reviewing company policies, requesting evidence of compliance, and, where appropriate, conducting site visits and interviews with management and workers.
Higher-risk suppliers, such as those providing labour-intensive services or operating in sectors or regions associated with elevated exploitation risks, may be subject to enhanced checks and more frequent review. Where issues are identified, we work with suppliers to agree corrective actions and monitor progress. If a supplier is unable or unwilling to remediate concerns within reasonable timeframes, we will consider suspension or termination of the business relationship.
Reporting Channels and Whistleblowing
We encourage employees, contractors, suppliers and other stakeholders to report any concerns about modern slavery or unethical labour practices connected to Removals Elephant and Castle. Concerns may relate to our own operations or to those of our suppliers or partners.
Reports can be raised in confidence to line managers, senior management or through internal reporting channels made available to staff. We are committed to ensuring that no one who raises a concern in good faith will suffer any form of retaliation or detrimental treatment as a result. All reports are investigated fairly, promptly and sensitively, and appropriate action is taken where issues are substantiated.
Training and Awareness
To support our zero-tolerance policy, we provide relevant employees with information and guidance on recognising the signs of modern slavery and understanding how to report concerns. Training is integrated into induction for new staff in appropriate roles and is refreshed periodically to ensure continuing awareness.
Managers responsible for procurement, recruitment and supplier management receive additional guidance on conducting due diligence and applying our anti-slavery standards when selecting and reviewing suppliers and partners.
Monitoring, Annual Review and Continuous Improvement
Removals Elephant and Castle is committed to continuous improvement in the identification and mitigation of modern slavery risks. We monitor the effectiveness of our actions through internal reviews, supplier feedback, incident reports and audit findings. Lessons learned are used to strengthen our policies, procedures and training.
This Modern Slavery Statement is reviewed at least once every year by our senior management team to ensure it remains current, effective and aligned with legal requirements and best practice. Any necessary updates to our approach, including changes to supplier requirements, due diligence processes or reporting mechanisms, are implemented following this annual review and communicated as appropriate.
This statement represents the ongoing commitment of Removals Elephant and Castle to operate responsibly, uphold human rights and play our part in the global effort to eradicate modern slavery and human trafficking.
